Today I’m announcing a new addition to this newsletter: The Living Dark subscriber chat, which I mentioned in yesterday’s email with the updated About page.
This is a forum and conversation space exclusively for subscribers—kind of like a group chat or live hangout. I’ll post questions, thoughts, and other prompts, and you can jump into the discussion. Paid subscribers are also able to start new threads of their own.
I’m envisioning the Living Dark chat as a place where we can delve deeper into the newsletter’s themes, engage in meaningful and enjoyable discussions, foster a community of like-minded individuals, collaborate to spark new ideas among ourselves, and support each other in navigating our creative paths.
For the first three or four weeks, chat will be open to everyone. After that it will become an exclusive benefit for subscribers at the paid tier, forming a core community.
The first thread—a request from me to introduce yourself and share something about your writing or other creative work—is already live.
How to get started
You can access chat on the web or through the Substack app. New chat threads won’t be sent sent via email, so in the app you can turn on push notifications if you don’t want to miss conversation as it happens (though I personally prefer to turn off all notifications and just engage when I’m available and internally motivated to do it).
Whether in the app or on the web, tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles. On the web it’s on the left side of the screen. In the app it’s on the bottom bar as shown below. Either way, you’ll see a row for The Living Dark chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my welcome thread to say hi and tell us about yourself and the creative work that you do, or that you’d like to do. If you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
Warm regards,
