All too true in our present time. I love the Confucius quote. Sometimes talk is just another form of breaking wind. That's a Jerry Martin quote. Be well!

I think a book full of Jerry Martin quotes would be worth owning!

Caine was my hero as a boy in the 70s. I loved his wisdom. I always liked an anti-hero or the bad guy. When we played cops and robbers, I was the robber. But Caine was one of the few heroes that bucked the trend of squareness in my little eyes. He was an outsider.

He was my hero, too. Soft-spoken, gentle, courteous, noble, innocent, profound, and fully able to kick everyone's ass when injustice was afoot.

I love this theme coming through in your words as of late. I realize this is an older post, but I’ve seen this thread of thought throughout your writing often. And especially as of late with your Substack notes and even something you wrote on mattcardin.com.

So, not to add to the cacophony of noise that is everything online, I just want to say that your thoughts here are the very reason I am grateful for your new downloadable publication, The Living Dark Reader. It allows me to savor the words you so carefully write without feeling any need to chime in, although I often want to, because something you write sparks a thought of my own… or a question. But I appreciate what you’ve written here and what you are saying lately. And I hope you realize just how many readers (I assume) appreciate what you send out as an offering into the world, whether we can chime in or not. That said, I don’t expect any response to this comment. 🙂 Because I literally do agree with what you are saying here. 🙏🏻
